Bombardier has revamped their Global 5000 and Global 6000 jets, with the addition of the new Global 5500 and 6500 to Bombardier’s ultra-long-range jet lineup. Both aircraft received Transport Canada certification in September and FAA and EASA certification is expected shortly, enabling customer deliveries to begin.

Go Just About Anywhere

These aircraft are well suited for making trips between continents, nonstop. They’ve been designed to maximize work, entertainment, and relaxation all in the same trip, all the while traveling up to 10,000 feet higher than commercial aircraft at much faster speeds.

Farther, Faster

Both aircraft feature a redefined wing, new flight deck, redesigned interior, along with new more powerful Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 turbofan engines.

The Global 5500 is capable of connecting São Paolo and London, offering 575 miles (500 nautical miles) of additional range for a total of 6,560 miles (5,700 nautical miles). The Global 6500 enables nonstop flights between cities as far apart as Singapore and London, offering 690 miles (600 nautical miles) of additional range for a total of 7,595 miles (6,600 nautical miles).

Both models see their maximum cruise speed increased from Mach .89 to Mach .90. The new variants also have a 13 percent fuel burn improvement and improved performance from hot and high altitude airports.

In Total Luxury

The interior enhancements include design elements brought forward from the Global 7500 including Bombardier’s signature “Nuage” seat.

Passengers will enjoy state of the art amenities onboard the new Globals. The cabin entertainment system is 4K/Ultra-HD capable, along with Ka-band high-speed in-flight internet connectivity, wireless music streaming throughout the Bluetooth-enabled cabin, wireless control of the cabin environment and entertainment via personal electronic devices.

Both Global 5500 and 6500 offer three separate living spaces where one can work, unwind and sleep, as well as a spacious ensuite and wardrobe. Seats convert easily to beds, and there are also crew rest areas. The larger Global 6500 is also the first business jet to offer an available stand-up shower, enabling passengers to arrive at their destination refreshed.

The Shape Of Things To Come

The Global 5500 and 6500 are the latest additions to Bombardier’s business jet lineup following certification earlier this year of the 8,861 mile ( 7,700 nautical mile) range Global 7500.

With demand in the business aviation market currently driving larger and longer-range aircraft Bombardier and competitors Gulfstream and Dassault are locked in a veritable large aircraft
”arms race” with new advancements rolling off the line more regularly. Bombardier is already pitching a Global 8000 that will be capable of nonstop flights between cities as far apart as Los Angeles and Dubai.
